Creation Care: October Goes to the Dogs & Cats
October 4th is the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi, patron saint of animals and the environments. Each October Sunday we will be helping our local SPCA, a Good Shepherd tradition for many years. We collect things to help their dogs, cats, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, donkeys and poultry plus wild life creatures such as reptiles, birds, injured animals of all kinds You can donate the following: old towels, blankets, dishes, collars, leashes, harnesses, pet toys, dog or cat beds, and dry and wet food for dogs and cats. Our SPCA is a no kill organization and offers adoptions, pet training, disaster rescues, veterinary care, prevention of cruelty to animals, training lessons, children’s camps and has an SPCA Benefit shop in Carmel Valley near the Barnyard.
Many of us have pets which enrich our lives. I have had pets since I was 5 years old. I loved my 7dogs and 7 cats because they enriched my life as good companions. Having a pet is good for your heart, and lowers your stress. It certainly works for me. When I come home, my little labradoodle, Amber, welcomes me with a wiggling joy, a wagging tail and bright eyes. She follows me wherever I go in the house. Her companionship enriches my life. Bring your contributions to enrich the lives of the SPCA’s animals.
