Northern California Disaster Relief

The Camp Fire, burning in Butte County, is the deadliest and most destructive fire in California history. One of our parishioners, Chris Knapp was called to Paradise as part of a strike team from the Salinas Fire Department. Chris continues his work fighting the Camp Fire.  Please keep Chris and all fire fighters in your prayers.

As of November 15, over 10,000 structures have been destroyed and more than 60 lives have been lost, with hundreds of people still not found.  The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California is very involved, a disaster relief team is operating out of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Chico, 12 miles east of Paradise.  “Family, friends, and loved ones have been displaced.  More and more stories are emerging” reports the diocese.

Our Outreach Committee on November 14, voted to recommend the Church of the Good Shepherd contribute $1,000 to the disaster relief fund managed by the Episcopal Diocese of Northern California which has committed to spend 100% of donations to assist victims of this disaster.

On December 2, during the coffee hour we will collect currency, cash and checks to supplement our church’s donation to be sent to help our neighbors who have suffered losses in the Camp Fire.  Checks may be made payable to The Episcopal Diocese of Northern California, noting “Disaster Relief” on the memo line.
